Save & Continue to builder Once you have configured your layout, you can start to build your content using all the features available by entering the layout builder, click 'Save & Continue to builder'. Layout Builder Overview The layout builder is 'where the magic happens'. Here you create your content using the WYSIWYG builder along with the many free widgets and plugins available. You should already have a layout set up. A layout is built up of pages, zones and playlist items. A 'Layout' can have an unlimited amount of 'Pages'. A 'Page' can have an unlimited amount of 'Zones'. A 'Zone' can have an unlimited amount of playlist items (creating a playlist). A playlist item is your content types (text, media, widgets, plugins etc). (Use the further reading links at the bottom, for further explanations) The builder is split into three main areas, two sidebars and the main layout display. The left-hand sidebar is where you can add, edit & delete pages and zones as well as select which page or zone you want to edit. The right-hand sidebar is where you edit your zone and its playlist. The main display is where you see what your page looks like whilst building it, where you can use the drag & drop feature to move and resize zones. When you first enter the builder, your layout will consist of one page and one zone, which can be edited or deleted. The page is the checkered area which is displayed in the orientation and has dimensions, in pixels, that correspond to the resolution chosen in the bar at the top of the screen. Here you can also add a background, either an image or colour, to the page, apply a grid to help with positioning zones, zoom in and out of the page as well as hiding/ showing the two sidebars. The zone is the area represented by the bordered box with 8 circles, used to resize the zone. The dimensions and position of this zone can also be edited in the 'Zone Options' displayed in the right-hand sidebar. Here you can also edit the zones name, for your reference, apply a background, border, shadow and an animation. To edit the zones playlist, click 'Edit Zone Playlist'. When you select the 'Edit Zone Playlist' button you will theoretically enter the zone and see its playlist. As mentioned before a playlist is created when playlist items have been chosen to show in this zone. A playlist can have a mixture of an unlimited amount of playlist items. The playlist items available are: Text - A text item allows you to write and format text Media - Can select media files from your media library Playlist - Enter a pre-configured global playlist Widget - Select a widget, which you can then format and customise Plugin - Select a plugin, which you can then format and customise (Use the further reading links at the bottom, for further explanations) Once a playlist item has been selected, it will be entered into the playlist. You can then re-order this playlist by dragging and dropping. The playlist will play from top to bottom, meaning the top item will be shown first etc. Individual playlist items can be edited by clicking either the setting on the playlist item or the pencil icon and choosing the setting from there. Multiple playlist items can be selected and any setting edited will be applied to the playlist items selected. The settings that can be customised are: Timing - How long the playlist item plays for before moving onto the next one (if you have one playlist item in your zone this will play continuously) Conditional Play - Apply rules to schedule the playlist item to play, will only show when all the rules set are matched Sizing - How the media item will fit inside of the zone Animation - How the playlist item enters the zone Triggers - Apply triggers to trigger an action Interactivity - Apply interactions to perform an action Tags - Add and remove tags Once you have created your playlist, click 'Finish Editing Playlist' or the 'X' in the top right-hand corner to go back to the overall view of the builder, from here you can save your layout. If you forget to save or press the 'Cancel' button there is an autosave feature, which will prompt you if you want to restore the layout from the autosave the next time you enter the builder. If you choose to 'Ignore', it will restore the layout to the last saved version. To save your layout, click 'Save Changes' in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Here you will be asked what you want to do after the save: Save & Preview - Save the layout and preview how the layout will look before publishing it to your device(s). Save & Exit - Save the layout and be taken back to the layouts section of your account. Save & Continue editing - Save the layout, but stay in the builder to continue editing. Save & Publish - Save the layout and then select the channel(s), that shows this layout, to publish. (will only show channels that have previously been published with this layout) Pages Overview: Pages What is a page? A page is a collection of zones that come together to create your content. You can create just one page within your layout or have multiple pages for different content. Each page can have as many zones as you would like, these zones then hold/ show your content items. Page Settings There are multiple settings that can be configured for each page, you edit some of these in the builder for that page. You can edit the background settings, select the resolution and the orientation of the page you are currently designing. (if selected when configuring the layout previously). The grid can be used to help with the designing of your layout and positioning of your zones, if selected a grid split into 50px x 50px squares will be visible over your content whilst in the builder. You can also zoom in/ out of the page as well as hide the left & right toolbars with the next two options. (image below). More detailed settings can be set in the overview of your pages, to get to this you need to click on the grid-like button above the page name. Here you will be able to configure additional settings as well as add, duplicate and delete pages. When pages are added or duplicated, the new page will go to the front of the queue meaning it will be shown first. You can re-arrange your pages by simply dragging and dropping on the three-tiered stack icon. To configure settings for individual pages you select the cogs, to view/ edit a pages content you select the eye icon. If you want settings applied to multiple pages, you simply select the pages you want and set the settings required. General Settings The page name and the page timeout can be set in the general settings. The timeout option is used when you have multiple pages, and allows you to set the length of time the page shows for. You then select an action that you want to happen after that time has elapsed. A target is sometimes needed for the action, this is the item you want the action selected to act on. (action - 'show page', target - 'page name'). Conditional Play You can schedule pages to show by adding conditions using conditional play. Pages can be scheduled to show depending on 'Time', 'Day', 'Dates' or 'Weather'. The settings (time, date and weather) are taken from your device. You could schedule pages for upcoming events or special offers, such as an ice cream offer that you only want to display when the weather is between 20 and 40 degrees celsius. To find out more about conditional play, click here. Background You can add a background to your page, this can either be an image or a colour. If you want to add an image as your background, you click on the box below the word image and here you can either choose an image from your media library, that you have previously uploaded, or you can upload an image from your computer. The 'Repeat' option is used if your image is smaller than your page, if this is the case the image will be repeated giving you a tiled effect. If the repeat option isn't selected your image will be stretched to fit the page. To add a colour you simply click on the box below the word colour and set the colour required using our colour picker. Animation An animation that is added to your page will be actioned when the page first loads such as when the layout first loads on the device or when moving from page to page within the layout. To add an animation, select the animation icon and choose from the drop down menu options, you can remove animations by selecting 'None'. Interactions Interactions will only work if your device has touch functionality. You can add interactions to your page by selecting the interactivity setting. Interactions such as 'tap' and 'swipe right' can be added to carry out actions such as 'Show next page' or 'Hide zone'. You simply click 'Add New' then select your interaction, action and target. Zones Overview: Zones What is a zone? A zone is a specified area, on a page, within a layout that you add content to. Each page can have an unlimited number of zones, and within each zone you can have unlimited number of content items, (known as playlist items) which in turn make a playlist. When you first create a layout and you enter the layout builder you will see a zone already on your page with a text playlist item inside. You can either edit this zone, delete the zone to start from scratch or add more new zones. Zone Settings Before you add your content you will need to configure your zone by editing the 'Zone Options'. Here you can edit the design of the zone, its visibility as well as adding conditional play and interactions. To edit the zone options, your designated zone has to be selected from the list of zones on the left hand side. When a zone has been selected, you will see a green tick next to the zone name, the zone highlighted on your page and the zone options will appear. You can edit a number of zones at the same time by selecting multiple zones and any setting changed will be saved to the zones selected. Design Using the design options you can change the zone name, its dimensions and position as well as add a background, border and an animation. Select the 'Design' option to edit these options on your selected zone. The dimensions and position of the zone can be set by changing the number values in the boxes provided or by using the drag and drop functionality on the WYSIWYG layout builder, the zone can be dragged and dropped / resized as desired. Full breakdown of all Design options: Name – edit the name of the zone Dimensions; Width and Height - specify the width and height of the zone in px Position; Top and Left - specify the distance from the top and left in px the zone should be placed. Position; Rotate - specify the angle the zone will be positioned (0° to 360°) Background; Image -select an image for the background of the zone Background; Colour – specify a colour for the background of the zone Background; Repeat – if using a background image, set if it should repeat or not Border; Size – specify the size of a border to be added to the zone. (Default: zero will add no border to the zone) Border; Colour – specify the colour of the border for the zone Border; Style - specify a border style (solid, dashed or dotted) Border; Radius – specify the radius of the border corners Shadow; Offset X - specify the distance of the shadow on the zone on a vertical axis Shadow; Offset Y - specify the distance of the shadow on the zone on a horizontal axis Shadow; Blur - specify how much blur you is added to the zone shadow Shadow; Colour - select the colour of the shadow, including opacity Animation; Type - choose from a range of animation styles for how the zone will first appear on a page Animation; Delay - specify how long until the zone should appear after display the page in which it resides Conditional Play By default, zones will always appear, however if you want to set conditions so the zone only appears when the conditions are met, you can do so by adding Conditional Play to the zone. To add conditional play to a zone, select the zone and add the rules using the conditional play option. It is possible to have multiple conditions set for a zone, for instance, if we had a 'Breakfast' zone that we only wanted to display between 07:30 - 11:30, Mon - Fri, we would set up our conditions as per the image below. If our zone is not eligible to show, it will show us a small message. Interactions - Touch events If you are designing touch content, you can set interactions on a zone. These could be added to carry out actions such as 'Hide zone', 'Show next page' or 'activate specific playlist item'. To add interactions you select the zone and choose 'Interactivity', then 'Add New'. Now choose the touch event type, action and target, before finally pressing 'Save'. You can add multiple touch events to a zone to perform multiple actions as required. We have set an interaction on our zone to, once tapped show zone 2, which is hidden using the visibility option. Our interaction would be 'Tap', 'Show Zone' as our action and 'Zone 2' as our target. The touch event options available are: Gesture – add a specified touch event to the zone (tap, swipe) Action – specify what you want to happen when the zone is touched (show, hide zones, pages etc) Target – specify what the touch event will target (new page, another zone etc) Remove – delete the touch event from the zone Visibility All zones are visible by default. To hide a zone press the visibility button, this will turn the button green and fade your zone out in the builder so you can still see where it is positioned but will be hidden on playback. You could then use either content triggers or touch interactions on other pages, zones or playlist items, to show the zone. Global By default, a zone added to a page will only appear on that page, however, for multi-page layouts it can sometimes be useful to have the same zone appear on all pages. To do this you set the zone to be a Global zone.If you set a zone to be global, it, along with all of its settings and playlist, will appear on each additional page you add to the layout. Zones that hold widgets such as the Time widget or RSS widget are a prime example of a 'Global' zone, in that you want that content to be displayed on all of your pages within the layout. Lock You can lock your zone by pressing the 'Lock' button which would then stop the zone options being edited. You will see the button turn green, making the options unavailable and a padlock icon is applied to the zone. When you need to edit your zone again simply unlock it by pressing the lock button again. Note: With the zone locked you still have the ability to edit your zone playlist content, this simply locks the zone in place and all zone options. If we add conditional play or use any of the visibility, global or lock options, icons will be displayed next to the zones name. Add a new zone As mentioned before, you can have an unlimited number of zones. To add a zone, simply press the 'Add Zone' '+' button above the list of zones, you will then be able to configure its settings and playlist. Duplicate a zone You can also duplicate a zone by selecting the zone(s) you want to duplicate then press 'Duplicate zone'. This will duplicate the zone(s) selected. You can duplicate zone(s) from either the left hand side bar: or in the zone options panel when a zone is selected: Reorder Zones Zones in the layout builder are layered, meaning whatever is towards the top of the list sits on top. This can be very useful for using image overlays on zones and general layout design. To change the order (hierarchy) of zones on a page, click and hold the relevant zone you want to move in the main layout menu (left hand side on desktop), drag it to the new desired new order / layer and then release. Delete a zone In a similar way to duplicating a zone, you can delete a zone in a couple of ways. One being to select it and press the delete button from the left hand side bar or by deleting it using the zone options once a zone has been selected. Note: When you delete a zone, it will also delete the zone playlist. What is a Zone? A zone is a specified area, on a page, within a layout that you add content to. You can then preview your layout, by clicking 'Save Changes' and selecting 'Save & preview'.Overview of Playlist item settings If you have added a playlist item into a zone, you would have come across some settings that can be edited. This article is going to go through each setting in more detail and let you know how and why it is helpful to edit these. If and when the settings have been changed, you will see the settings update in the items summary. (not all settings are available on each playlist item - sizing only occurs on media items) Timings The time chosen is how long this playlist item will show before moving onto the next available playlist item. If you only have one playlist item in your zone, this will play continuously so this setting is irrelevant. You can set the time this item shows for by filling out the options available in 'Hours', 'Minutes' & 'Seconds'. The 'Repeat' option, when selected, will show this item on repeat meaning it wont move onto the next available item. The 'Play Item Until Finished' option is only available for videos, and if selected will move onto the item once this video has played through fully once otherwise it will move onto the next item in relation to the time set. Conditional Play Conditional play allows you to add and set rules to schedule the playlist item to show. These rules can be dependant on time of day, days of the week, specific date ranges, weather condition, temperature, wind and connectivity of the device. If you set these rules the item will only show when all of the rules set are matched. By default items are always available to show, so conditional play isnt necessary if you want this to be the case. You can add multiple rules, simply click 'Add rule' and fill out the relevant information. As mentioned before all rules set must be matched for the item to be available to show. Sizing The sizing setting is only relevant to media items, and is how the item will be shown inside the zone. The options available are: Letterbox - Will display your item in the size, in pixels, it was uploaded with. If the item is smaller than the zones dimensions, the item will have margins assigned. Stretch - Will stretch the media item to the size of the zone. If the item is stretched it may become disorientated/ blurred. Crop - Will crop the image to be the size of the zone it is in. Used if the image is larger than the zones dimensions, crops from the top left of the item. Animation Choose how your playlist item enters the zone every time it shows, by selecting an animation. If you only have one playlist item, this animation will take effect when the page first loads. If you do not want an animation, simply choose 'None'. Triggers You can set actions to occur on a target when a specific playlist item starts or ends by adding triggers. For instance you could set a trigger to show a hidden zone when a specific playlist item starts and then hide it when a playlist item ends. To add a trigger for when the playlist item starts, simply click the 'Add New' button to the right of the text, 'When playlist item starts', choose your action and associate a target.Follow the procedure to add a trigger for when the playlist item ends, but make sure to click the 'Add New' button to the right of the 'When playlist item ends' text.To remove a trigger, simply click the 'Remove' button to the right of the trigger you wish to remove. Interactivity You can add interactions, if your device has interactive functionality, to your playlist items, which can perform actions on chosen targets. To add an interaction, simply select a touch event, choose an action and associate a target. With these options you can do things such as 'When a playlist item is tapped, activate a specific playlist item in a different zone'.You can add multiple interactions, by clicking the 'Add New' button. If you have multiple interactions with the same touch event, each interaction will be called in the order they have been set. Remove an interaction by clicking the 'Remove' button to the right of the interaction you wish to remove. Tags Tags can be used for: Filtering, Dynamic Media Items, Device Conditional Play and User Groups.. You can add these tags to playlist items, by entering the name of the tag you wish to add. To remove a tag, simply press the 'x' icon to the right of the tag you wish to remove. You can then configure their settings, by selecting them from the items summary or from the options displayed on the right hand side once the pencil icon has been clicked. Once you are happy with your playlist, click 'Finish Editing Playlist' or the 'X' in the top right hand corner to be taken back to the layout builder overview.Overview of Dynamic Media Item The Dynamic Media Item (DMI) feature allows users to build a playlist of media using tags. Users can then specify a playback order (A-Z, newest to oldest etc) as well as adding custom playback sequence rules. How to set up a DMI Step 1: Upload your media and then tag the items (i.e. Slot 1, Slot 2 etc): Step 2: Create your layout and in a zone add a Dynamic Media Item (DMI). Using the Dynamic Media Item option you can determine what items and how they will playback by configuring: Order - Choose to play items randomly, A-Z, Z-A, newest first or oldest first Tags - Type the tag(s) that you want to be pulled into the DMI Create Playback Sequence - The first box is where you specify the total number of items to play per sequence for a specific tag. The next box is to specify which tag or file type you want to play. Playback Sequence Example: The below set up would give the playback sequence of: 1a, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6a, 1b, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6b, 1a, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6c, 1b, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6d and so on... Here is a preview of what this DMI set up will show based on the Playback Sequence Rules set: Overview of Global Playlists A global playlist allows you to create and manage a single playlist, which can be used in multiple layouts, from a single place. Create Global Playlist To create a global playlist, navigate to the 'Global Playlists' section of your account and click 'Add New'. You will see an area, similar to the layout builder. The bar at the top shows the resolution (resolutions from devices registered), orientation, zoom and show/ hide sidebars. An area that states the number of playlist items and the total running time of the playlist, depending on the timings set on the playlist items. You can change the playlists name and then edit the playlist by clicking the 'Edit Playlist Items' button. Edit Playlist You can add a mixture of an unlimited amount of playlist items, the same way you do when adding a playlist item into a zone. The only option you can not add to a global playlist is another global playlist Once you are happy with your playlist, click 'Finish Editing Playlist' or the 'X' in the top right hand corner. To save you a playlist, click 'Save Changes' and select what you want to do after the save. Save & Exit - Save playlist and exit to the global playlist section of your account Save & Continue editing - Save playlist but stay on this page to continue editing Save & Publish - Save playlist and choose the channel(s), that this playlist is associated to, to publish (will only show previously published channels with this playlist) Add to a Layout(s) To add a global playlist to a layout(s), you have to add the global playlist playlist item into a zone. Select the designated zone and either double click or click 'Edit Zones Playlist' to enter the zones playlist. Select playlist from the playlist item options at the top of the screen to insert a global playlist. You will see the search options similar to those found when adding a media item and a list of your previously created global playlists. The insert procedure, is also the same as the way you insert a media playlist item, allows you to click and insert, double click or drag and drop. Manage Playlist You can change the global playlists playlist at any time, and it will be updated in every layout that it is being used. Go to the global playlists section of your account, click the pencil icon to the right of the global playlists name. Make your changes, including changing the playlist items. Once you are happy save the playlist and publish the channel(s) you want updated. How to use Content Triggers Triggering content is useful when you want certain content to display when another item is showing, for instance, if you wanted a certain image to display when a specific piece of text is displaying. We are going to use this scenario as an example to demonstrate how to use content triggers. Example Content Trigger Setup: Firstly, we need to create two zones. One zone for the images (Zone A) Another zone for the text (Zone B) In our example, we are going to add content triggers to the text items to trigger the relevant image. Zone A: We need to make sure our images don't move onto the next image in the playlist without being triggered. We do this by setting their 'Timings' to 'Repeat'. This can be done individually or in this case, by selecting all and then applying 'Repeat' to all. Zone B: In Zone B, we insert the relevant text items and set specific timings to determine how long each one will show for. In this example we have set all our text items to play for 10 seconds then fade onto the next one. Adding the Triggers: We want to add the content trigger(s) to the text items, so in Zone B we need to select the 'Triggers' option. This can be located on the playlist item itself in two places: In the playlist view On the item options, when the item selected We now have two options of when we want our trigger to happen 'when the playlist item starts' or 'when the playlist item ends'. As you might expect, if you choose to add the trigger when the playlist item startsthen it will trigger the action when the specific playlist item starts. When the playlist item ends it will activate when the playlist item has finished (determined by its timing setting of that item). Setting a content trigger - 'When Playlist Item Starts': We are not going to add a content trigger using the 'when the playlist item starts' option. We want to add a content trigger on the 'Show the Frog' text to trigger the frog image to display in our images zone.To add this content trigger, we need to first click 'Add New' Now we select an 'Action' from the drop down panel. In our case, we'll choose 'Activate Specific Playlist Item' Finally, we choose the 'Target' which in this case is 'Images - (1) Frog.jpg'. Note: the naming convention of playlist items when listed as targets is 'ZONE NAME - (POSITION IN PLAYLIST) NAME OF ITEM' What we now have set up is: When the Frog text Item starts playing, it will activate the Frog.jpg in the other zone. Setting a content trigger - 'When Playlist Item Ends': Another way to trigger the frog image to display when the 'Show the Frog' text is showing is to add the content trigger to the end of the previous item. We need to locate the previous item in the playlist, which in our zone is the last item, number 5, called 'Show the Wolf'. Now we click onto the Triggers section for this item and add a content trigger 'When playlist item ends'. We configure the Action to 'activate a specific playlist item', then choose the Targetas 'Images - (1) Frog.jpg'. Once the 'Show the Wolf' text plays through, it will move onto the next playlist item in the playlist (our frog text item) and will activate the content trigger. Doing more with Content Triggers: There is no limit to the number of content triggers you can add to an item, either at the start, at the end or both. This means you can use content triggers to activate multiple actions such as showing items in several zones, hiding some zones, showing others that are hidden etc. We hope you enjoy this feature and can start experimenting with some cool and clever content using content triggersDesign / Formatting How to add a Background Colour or Image to a Layout, Page and Zone Adding a Layout Background Colour or Image: In the layout builder, above the layout canvas, there is a list of options. Select the option for 'Background Settings'. You'll now see an options panel pop up which gives you the ability to set a background image or colour to an entire layout or the specific page selected. Layout Background - this is applied to every page within the layout and any new page created Page Background - this overwrites the layout background settings for the specific page selected To add a background colour to a layout, simply click into the colour box and use the colour picker. Once you've selected the colour, close the colour picker with the 'X' close at the top right. If you're happy, just click the 'Apply Background' button to set the colour. To add a background image to a layout, again you access this via the 'Background Settings' option in the layout builder. Now click on the 'Image' box. You'll now be presented with a pop up where you can browse your media library. Simply find the item you want to and select it. If you're happy, just click the 'Apply Background' button to set the image. NOTE: Setting a background image will overwrite/take priority over a background colour. Remove a Layout Background Colour or Image: To remove an image set as the layout background, click into the 'Background Settings' option, then click into the image box. Now when the media library option pops up, click the 'No Image' option to remove the image. Now click 'Apply Background' to remove the image. To remove background colour, click into the 'Background Settings' option then into the colour box. In the colour picker, set the Opacity to '0' (zero) to make the colour fully transparent. Now click 'Apply Background' to remove the colour. Adding a Page Background Colour or Image:: You can access the page background settings in exactly the same way as the layout background above. Now you can configure the image or colour for the 'Current Page' Once configured, click 'Apply Background' to set the colour/image for the current page. NOTE: Setting the Current Page Background will overwrite the Layout Background settings for the currently selected page. Adding a Zone Background Colour or Image: Select the zone you wish to edit, then in the zone options panel find the section for Background settings. Much the same as background settings for Layouts and Pages outlined above, you are able to choose to add a background image or colour by clicking into the relevant boxes. TIP: Adding a background colour to a zone, play with the opacity setting to make zones slightly transparent. This is great for layering content and adding extra design / visual impact. Text formatting This article will go through how to format your text to make sure you catch your audiences' eye and grab their attention. Text playlist item To add some text to your layout you will need to add a text playlist item into your zone. When you have inserted your text playlist item, you can edit some of its overall settings as well as the text and its formatting. To do this click the pencil icon on that playlist item. Next, you can edit some of its general settings, such as the playlist item name and timing. To edit the text, click 'Edit Text & Formatting'. You will see the current text and its formatting settings. To edit the text and/ or formatting you have to highlight the text you want to edit. Simply delete the text and replace it with the text you want to be displayed. The formatting settings are visible on the right-hand side. the settings you can edit are as follows: Font Colour Font Size Line Height Letter Spacing Indent Alignment Text wrapping/ Word break (used when a word hits the zones width - can choose to place the word together on the next line or break the word and split on two lines) Bold Italic Underline/ Overline/ Strikethrough Uppercase/ Capitalise/ Lowercase Left, right, top, bottom margin Shadow The settings that you change are applied to the paragraph of text you have highlighted. If you want to add different formatting to different lines of text, they must be separate paragraphs. If no text is selected, then no formatting will be applied. To save the changes made to the text and formatting, click 'Save Changes' at the top of the screen. Once you have saved, you will be taken back to your zones playlist where you can see the 'Current text' has changed. If your text overflows your zones dimensions you can apply the scrolling text feature and edit the speed, giving you the ability to have as much text as you would like in your zone. Click 'Finish Editing Playlist' at the bottom of the screen to be taken back to the builder where you can see your text with its formatting displayed in your zone. Text formatting for Widgets Other elements within the layout builder can also be text formatted. For example, many of the widgets include text which you can customise and format as desired. Time Date Weather RSS / Text Twitter Once you've added the relevant widget to the playlist, much like above, you need to edit the item then you'll see a 'Customise' button which you click to edit the formatting. Then, exactly as above, you need to select/highlight the text you want to format and then use the font formatting panel to change the styling. Touch / Interactivity Creating Interactive Touch Content Touch Events or Interactions can be added to Pages, Zones and individual content items to build interactive layout content in the embed signage builder. Zones: On a zone to add touch interactions you need to select the 'Interactivity' tab on the Zone Options panel To add an event, click the add new button. You will then have a touch event added which you can configure. The first part to configure is: Gesture - What type of touch the user will use to activate the event. Tap the zone or Swipe Left, Right Up or Down on the zone Action - Choose what you want to happen when touched. Things like the show or hide pages, zones or playlist items. Also, trigger functions from within plugins such as Dynamic data Target - what you want the event to affect for example a specific page, zone or content item You can also add more than one touch event to a zone - this means you can carry out multiple actions from a single touch on a zone or perform different actions based on different gestures... very useful when swiping. Pages: In the Page Options panel, select the interactivity tab for the page you want to add touch event(s) to. Much like zones, you can then add touch events or multiple events to the page and configure the gesture, action and target. Zone Playlist Items: As with pages and zones, you can also add touch events to specific playlist items. To do this enter the zone playlist and click on either: The Touch section of the playlist item... or the Interactivity tab from the item options... You can then configure your touch event(s) on that specific playlist item to carry out the action(s) you want. Multi Resolution / Orientation Create a Layout for both Portrait & Landscape First, make a new layout: Layouts > Add New Next, complete the Layout settings by giving it a Name, selecting the resolution(s) and orientations: Now choose the Template you want to start building your layout from (default is blank) and click 'Save & Continue to Builder' located top right At the top of the layout builder, select the orientation you want to design for. For this example, we have selected Landscape: Now add content via pages, zones and playlist items. We've added a text item and added some basic formatting. To design this content for Portrait, we simply select the drop down for orientation at the top of the layout and select 'Portrait': We can now edit the zone size and position as well as the formatting of the text item in portrait orientation to be different to that of landscape: Continue to do this for all other zone content to optimise each orientation design so the same content can be used for both portrait and landscape.Conditional Play Overview: Conditional Play What is Conditional Play? Conditional play is a feature that allows you to set rules for when content within a layout is eligible to be displayed. You can set specific conditions based on: Time Days of the week Date ranges Weather conditions Temperature Wind speed Device connectivity Room booking meeting Conditional play can be set on pages, zones and playlist items, giving you complete control of what content is to be shown and when. You can also add multiple conditional play rules to an item giving even further control. The rules are based on the device that the layout is being displayed on, so the time, date and location settings need to be accurately set on every device registered to your account. When registering a device, if it does not automatically geolocate, you can manually add a device location - this is important as this is the location that will be used for the weather conditions, wind and temperature rules for that device. When would I use conditional play? Times Used for content within a layout that you want to display during certain times of the day. Select 'Times' as the rule type then simply choose your start and end times. Set items to show on an overnight schedule, by applying the days rule too. A breakfast image to show between 06:00 and 10:30 Dates Used for content within a layout that you want to display during a specific date range. When adding a start and end date, the start will be 00:00 on the specified day and the end will be 23:59 on the specified day. For example, 1st December to 19th December will begin at midnight on the 1st and end at 23:59 on the 19th. Select 'Dates' as the rule type and then choose your start and end dates. A Christmas party reminder running from 1st December to 19th December. Days Used for content within a layout that you want to display on specific day(s) of the week. Select 'Days' as the rule type, then select the day(s). If you have content playing overnight, you will need to select the 'Include next day if has overnight time rule' option otherwise the item will only show up until midnight. Weather Condition Used for content within a layout that you want to display during certain weather conditions. Select 'Weather condition' as the rule type and choose your condition. A text item to remind people to take extra care while driving in the foggy conditions Temperature Used for content within a layout that you want to display while the weather is between a certain temperature range (either celsius or fahrenheit). Select 'Temperature' as the rule type, then choose unit of degrees and specify your low and high temperatures. An ice cream offer that appears when the temperature exceeds 20°C (low temp). Wind Used for content within a layout that you want to show when the wind is between two units of speed (either MPH or KPH). Select 'Wind' as the rule type, choose the unit of speed and specify your wind speeds. A text item to notify the surfers to expect good surfing conditions due to the high wind speed Connectivity Used for content within a layout that you want to display depending on the connectivity status of your device. Select 'Connectivity' as the rule type then choose the status (online or offline). Add the 'offline' status to an image to only show when the device is offline. (if you had a website in the same zone, this wouldn't show when the device is offline, so show this image instead of having an empty zone) Room booking You can schedule items to show/ hide depending on whether there is/ is not a meeting in progress. You will need to add the room booking plugin, with room booking system, into a zone on the page - conditions are taken from this room booking system. Then add the room booking conditional play to the content you want to schedule. Room booking plugin Add the 'Meeting In Progress' option to show a zone with an image of the clients logo, while their meeting is in progress. You can add multiple types of conditions to any item (page, zone or playlist item). The more conditions you set the more specific you are about when you want that item to display. For example, if you had a 'It is cold this morning, come in and purchase a coffee' message you could set 'Times' and 'Temperature' conditions to only display that message during the morning whilst the weather is between two specific temperatures. Note: All conditions that have been set must be met for the content to show.Conditional Play - Pages When would I add conditional play to my page? Within a layout, you can have multiple pages and it may be that you have a page that should only show during specific periods - you can do this by adding conditional play. This gives you the ability to set up all of your pages and control when each page shows. By default, Pages will have no conditional play set and will always be eligible to display. It is only when you want to set specific rules for that page to display that you can use conditional play. You can set specific conditions based on: Time Days of the week Date ranges Weather conditions Temperature Wind speed Device connectivity Examples of why/when you would use conditional play on pages Breakfast Menu Page - Add the 'Times' rule to your breakfast page to only display it during specific times (7:00 - 11:00) Christmas Party Reminder Page - Add the 'Dates' rule to your Christmas party page to only display it the week leading up to your Christmas party. Friday Offer Page - Add the 'Day' rule to your Friday offer page to only display it on a Friday Holiday Page - Add the 'Weather Condition' rule to your Holiday page to only display it when the weather condition is 'sunny/clear' De-Icer Page - Add the 'Temperature' rule to your De-Icer page to only display it when the temperature is cold Safety Notice - Add the 'Wind' rule to your Safety Notice page to only display it when there is high wind speed Holding Message - Add the 'Connectivity' rule to the Holding page of your web-based kiosk to only display when the device is 'offline' Fire Drill Reminder Page - Add multiple rules (potentially 'Time' & 'Day') to only display it during specific times on certain days of the week (Tuesday 10:00 - 10:30) How do I add conditional play to my page? In the layout builder, go to the overview of your pages, by pressing the grid button on the pages area (top left of the builder) Navigate to the conditional play settings tab. You can do this by either selecting the page you want to add your conditional play to and clicking the conditional play settings tab or by simply clicking the conditional play list on the page summary listing Click 'Add rule' to add a conditional play rule to your selected page(s) Here you can add as many rules as you wish and all rules must be met for content to be eligible to play. Press the 'Add rule' button to increase the number of rules. Simply select your 'Rule type' then fill out the relevant information. Below we have added two rules to only show this page on a Tuesday between 10:00 - 10:30. We can schedule a page to show overnight, by also using the 'Times' and 'Days' rules. We have to select the 'Include next day if has overnight time rule' otherwise the page will only show up until midnight. We simply set the times and select the day(s) we want the overnight schedule for. If you want to show the page on a Wednesday overnight, we dont select Thursday. (otherwise the page will also show Thursday overnight) Once your rules have been set, you will see them on your page summary. It will also show if the page will/will not show depending on the rules set (based on the device/browser you are using to build the layout content at that time). In the image below, you can see BOTH of the page rules have not been met (indicated by a ( ! )next to time, (✓) next to date) and therefore this page will not be eligible to play. To remove a rule, simply click the 'x' button to the right of the rule you wish to remove. Conditional Play - Zones Why use conditional play on zones? Conditional play is used to set rules for when content in a layout is eligible to be shown. This feature gives you the ability to make sure the correct content is being displayed at the right time and reactive to real world conditions. By default, Zones will have no conditional play and will always be eligible to display. It is only when you want to set specific rules for that zone to display that you can use conditional play. You can set specific conditions based on: Time Days of the week Date ranges Weather conditions Temperature Wind speed Device connectivity Room booking Example of why/when to use conditional play on zones Good morning zone - If you had a zone with a good morning messages you could add the 'Times' rule to only show it during the morning. Half term notice zone - May have some information regarding half term clubs that you could add the 'Dates' rule to, so it only shows leading up to/ during half term. Match information zone - If you had a zone regarding a sports match you could add the 'Day' rule to only show it on the day of the match. Sledge promo zone - A zone with a promotion for Sledges could have the 'Weather condition' rule added to it to only display when the weather condition is 'snow/sleet' Stay hydrated notice zone - Display your 'drink more water' notice when the temperature rises by adding the 'Temperature' rule to your zone. Harbour & Beach zone - Display advisories / warnings to sailors and beach goers when there are high wind speeds by adding the 'Wind' rule to your zone Client logo zone - Show a zone with the clients logo when their meeting is in progress by adding the 'Room Booking' rule to your zone. Offline image zone - Show your offline image when your device goes offline to replace a widget that requires an internet connection by adding the 'Connectivity' rule to your zone. Hot chocolate videos zone - Display your hot chocolate videos during the morning when the temperature is low by setting 'Times' & 'Temperature' rules to your zone. How do I add conditional play to my zones? In the layout builder, select the zone(s) you wish to add your rules to. Navigate to the 'Conditional Play' option for that zone in the zone options panel (right side of builder). Click 'Add rule' Choose your rule type and enter in the relevant information You can add multiple rules to your zone but ALL rules must be met for the zone to show. Once you have set your rules, you will see if the zone will/will not show depending on the rules set (based on the device/browser you are using to build the layout content with at that time). You will also see that the zone will display how many conditions have been set on that zone. To remove a rule, simply click the 'x' button to the right of that rule. Conditional Play - Playlist Items Why use a conditional play on playlist items? If you needed different pieces of content to display during specific periods but in the same position on your page, you can add all of these items into one zone, then add conditional play to each item to display them at the relevant periods. By default, playlist items will have no conditional play and will always be eligible to display. It is only when you want to set specific rules for that item to display that you can use conditional play. You can set specific conditions based on: Time Days of the week Date ranges Weather conditions Temperature Wind speed Device connectivity An example of using 'Time' & 'Day' conditions on text playlist items We have one zone with multiple text playlist items, which we want to show at certain times, on specific days of the week. If we set each item to play for 15 seconds and then add conditional play, the relevant playlist item will only be shown if its rules have been met. If only one playlist items' rules have been met, this item will show indefinitely. How do I add conditional play to my playlist items? In a zone playlist, select a playlist item, navigate to the 'Conditional Play' setting by clicking the conditional play settings tab. Alternatively, simply click on any playlist items' conditional play setting on the playlist item list view. Select the  'Add rule' Choose your rules and fill out the relevant information for that rule. You can add multiple rules to each playlist item by again clicking 'Add rule' Once the rules have been set, they will be visible on the playlist item. It will also show whether the item will/will not show depending on the rules set. A playlist item with conditional play set, will only play when ALL rules have been met. In the below example, two items have their 'Day' rule met but only one has the 'Times' rule met (indicated by a ( ! ) next to time, (✓) next to date), meaning this is the only item eligible to be shown. If we set conditional play on all of our playlist items and we had a period in which none of the rules were met, our zone would not display any items. Overnight schedule You can set content to show overnight by also using the 'Times' and 'Days' rule. When adding the days rule you have to select the 'Include next day if has overnight time rule' otherwise the item will only show up until midnight. If you want to show an item Wednesday 21:00 - Thursday 07:00. Notice we have only selected Wednesday and not Thursday. If we were also to select Thursday the item would also show Thursday 21:00 - Friday 07:00. How do I remove conditional play from my playlist item? To remove a rule, simply click the 'x' to the right of the rule you wish to remove. Overview of Device Conditional Play The device conditional play works in a different way, it allows you to only show media with specific tags. Tags are added to the media items, and the condition is configured when editing your device. This feature allows you to show specific media items on certain devices from one layout. For example, we have offices in London, Paris & New York. We have six images, two of London, two of Paris and two of New York. We want our devices to only show the media from the relevant cities. Tag Media First step is to add tags to your media items. Simply select your media item(s), click 'Tags' and specify your tag. Once media has been tagged, you will see the tag to the right of the items information. We have tagged the two Paris images with the tag 'paris' and London images 'london'. Media items can have multiple tags, just follow the same procedure of selecting and specifying your tag. Create layout Next step is to create your content using the layout builder and inserting the images. We can insert all of our images in the same zone and when we publish it down to our devices, they will only show specific media depending on their tag. Configure device Once our layout has been created, we can configure the device to only show specific media items. Go to the devices section, edit your relevant device and find the 'Conditional Play' feature. Once enabled you will see the settings you can configure. Exclude/ Only show - Gives you the ability to select whether you want to exclude or only show media with specific tags all/ any - Important if your media items have multiple tags - If 'all' is selected the device will only show media items with ALL of the following tags (must be tagged with all of the following tags). If 'any' is selected the device will only show media items with ANY of the following tags (only has to have one of the following tags). Specify your tags in the input field and untagged media - If selected, will also show all of the media used in the layout that hasn't been tagged. For our example, we would set up our London device as follows, to only show media items that have the tag 'london': Once this has been set up, click 'Save Device'. Preview layout When previewing your layout, you can select which device to preview it on. Meaning you will preview your layout using the settings set on the device selected.
